President's Message - April 2026

Dear PNIRS Community,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share several important updates and opportunities for engagement within our community.

First, I want to highlight our upcoming annual meeting, which will take place June 22-25 in New Orleans, Louisiana. We would truly love to see you there this year. With so much happening in the world around us, it can be tempting to step back and wait for the dust to settle. However, if we want the values we care deeply about--especially the advancement of science--to remain strong, this is precisely the time to step forward, engage, and support one another.

Our annual meeting is where we come together to do what we do best: share, challenge, and advance science. A strong turnout is not only vital for the intellectual energy of the meeting but also critical to the financial health of the Society. Your participation truly matters.

Please note that the abstract submission deadline is April 6, which is fast approaching. I encourage you to submit your work and be part of the scientific exchange that defines PNIRS. Submit here.

In addition, be sure to reserve your room at the meeting hotel. All attendees who book within our room block will be automatically entered into a drawing to have their entire stay covered. This prize is also transferrable, so if you’d like to support a trainee, this is a wonderful opportunity to do so.

Second, I am excited to announce our next PNIRS Presents event. Featuring Martin Picard. Dr. Picard will be sharing his latest work on mitochondrial science, an area of growing importance and impact. This promises to be an engaging and insightful session, and I encourage you not to miss it.

Finally, we are actively seeking donations to support PNIRS and its mission. If you are interested in contributing, or if your organization would like to explore sponsorship opportunities, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly. Your support helps ensure that we can continue to provide high-quality programming, foster collaboration, and support the next generation of scientists.

Thank you for your continued commitment to PNIRS! I look forward to seeing many of your in New Orleans this June.

Warmest regards,

Ruth Barrientos
