The Women’s Integrative Sexual Health (WISH) Lab is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The WISH lab is housed within the Department of Psychology and the Center for Brain, Biology, and Behavior. The goal of this fellowship is to conduct and disseminate rigorous research in human sexuality, with a focus on the integration of psychophysiological, endocrine, and/or immune biomarker measures. This fellowship is designed as a two-year experience that includes in-depth training in sexual and reproductive health science, biomarker measurement and analysis, quantitative and qualitative methods, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Although it is expected that the Fellow will have some prior experience with biopsychological measures, significant hands-on training will be available in sexual psychophysiology and biomarker assay. In addition to the many existing projects and datasets available in the WISH lab, there are also ample opportunities for collaboration with our partners in the Department of Psychology; the Center for Brain, Biology, and Behavior; the Rural Drug Addiction Research Center; and the Minority Health Disparities Initiative.

Duties of the position include:

  • Collaborating on project development, experimental design, and data analysis of sexual psychophysiology and/or biomarker research projects.
  • Assisting with project management and coordination on a variety of ongoing research projects.
  • Conducting biomarker assays.
  • Assisting with training and mentoring students and laboratory staff.
  • Providing guidance and consultation to faculty and students involved in biomarker and psychophysiology research.
  • Contributing to grant development.
  • Co-authorship and dissemination.

Salary and benefits are commensurate with NIH guidelines. The position is ideal for candidates wishing to ultimately pursue a variety of career paths, including a tenure-track faculty position with a combined focus on research, teaching, and mentoring, as well as positions in non-academic settings. A doctoral degree (or expected prior to start date) in Psychology, Neuroscience, Biology, Gender Studies, or a related field is required. Demonstrated training and experience in research design using biopsychological measures such as psychophysiological, endocrine, and/or immune measures; evidence of project coordination/project management skills, proficiency in data analysis and interpretation; co-authorship of manuscripts or presentations using biopsychological measures such as psychophysiological, endocrine, and/or immune measures; and experience with human subjects research are also required.

Preference will be given to applicants with evidence of independence in research design, grant writing, and/or publication; authorship or co-authorship of scholarly work in sexual or reproductive health science; experience with typical measures of stress (e.g., cortisol; HRV), reproductive health (e.g., ovarian hormones), and/or sexual response (e.g., photoplethysmography); knowledge of operation of common psychophysiology and/or wet lab equipment and/or software (e.g., Biopac hardware, AcqKnowledge software, Salimetrics kits, Gen5 software); experience working with LGBTQ+ populations; and experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students in a research laboratory.

The MCW Biobehavioral Oncology Training (BBOT) NCI T32 Program offers two years of postdoctoral research training and integrates the cross-cutting theme of cancer disparities from prevention to survivorship. This includes the role of biological and behavioral factors in cancer prevention, control, and treatment through 1) the biology of stress and disparities, and 2) social determinants of health behavior and outcomes. The aim is to cultivate successful, independent cancer research leaders capable of addressing health disparities in cancer. The grant is funded through the NCI with Drs. Melinda Stolley and Jennifer M. Knight serving as Co-PIs.

The Ohio State University College of Medicine (OSUCOM) seeks an accomplished and innovative scientist and leader to serve as its next Director of the Institute for Behavioral Medicine Research (IBMR). Established in 1996, the IBMR was created to conduct and expand interdisciplinary collaborations involving social and behavioral influences on the immune response and health.  The IBMR faculty take a multidisciplinary approach to conduct research on mind, brain, and body interactions.

Position Overview
The IBMR is comprised of twenty-one faculty members. Total external funding is ~$13M,  including multiple research grants from the NIH and  DOD.  Our researchers represent expertise in the fields of immunology, microbiology, neuroscience, psychiatry, psychology, and oncology. Additionally, the IBMR faculty are involved with several individual and institutional training grants.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a collaborative leader to foster growth of an interdisciplinary research ecosystem at one of the nation's premier academic institutions. OSU currently has expertise across all basic sciences, translational research, and clinical care. The new IBMR Director will leverage existing strengths and create new initiatives, with the goal of integrating and expanding Behavioral Medicine research. It is expected that the Director will foster IBMR growth and sustainability through collaboration with the COM, Wexner Medical Center and other Colleges. The Director will elevate the local and national reputation of the Institute through the creation and dissemination of new knowledge and its translation to medical practice.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Director has overall responsibility for the Institute's personnel, programs, operations, and execution of its mission and vision. Specifically, the Director shall:

  • Oversee the development and execution of IBMR’s vision and strategy;
  • Create a dynamic and collaborative ecosystem for research and discovery focused on behavioral medicine within the IBMR and across the medical center, the College of Medicine and other Colleges at OSU;
  • Oversee programming, budget, and development of key performance indicators through evaluation and assessment of Institute programs and initiatives to measure progress toward achieving goals;
  • Increase extramural funding for IBMR investigators;
  • Ensure optimal utilization of research space for the organization;
  • Foster the growth and sustainability of the Institute through faculty recruitment and retention, collaboration with Department Chairs and other Institute/Center Directors in the COM and Wexner Medical Center and other Colleges
  • Grow the inter/national reputation of the Institute;
  • Support, mentor and develop learners, staff and faculty;
  • Support philanthropic efforts for the IBMR;

The Director of the IMBR will join a group of other OSU Institute/Center Directors from the Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute (DHLRI), The Center for the Advancement of Team Science, Analytics, and Systems Thinking (CATALYST), the Nisonger Center, and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) and participate in the Basic Science Chairs/Center & Institute Directors meetings.

PhD candidates are expected to have a track record of working with physicians and physician-scientists to create translational research.  MD and MD/PhD candidates are expected to have a track record of working with basic scientists to create translational opportunities.  The Director is expected to sustain and build  research initiatives to drive innovation in discovery and translation to patient care and outcomes.

  • MD, MD/PhD or PhD in medicine, neuroscience, psychology, immunology, microbiology, or related fields;
  • Active NIH-funded research program
  • National/international  reputation with a proven track record of academic excellence

About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant with interest/expertise in psychoneuroimmunology or related field to work to work with us investigating the mechanisms behind the antidepressant effect of physical exercise. The position is funded by the Wellcome Trust for three years in the first instance (Life Study). You will work at the Translational Pharmacology Lab directed by Dr. Livia A. Carvalho. The mechanisms we are interested involving neuroendocrine, immune, and metabolic systems. The post holder will apply mainly wet-, but potentially also dry- lab methods in appropriate samples to interrogate related questions.

About You
The successful candidate will be expected to have a PhD degree in Immunology, genomics, or related field, ideally with a background in neurosciences, with excellent hands-on knowledge and experience with RNA sequencing analysis, qPCR, flow cytometry and luminex. Excellent laboratory skills and data analysis skills are necessary. Key attributes of the successful candidate should include evidence of prior research productivity, great communication and interpersonal skills, good organisation, self-motivation, and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.

The Pennsylvania State University's Department of Biobehavioral Health (BBH) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar to work with Drs. Jennifer Graham-Engeland and Christopher Engeland, as well as their colleagues in both BBH and the Center for Healthy Aging at Penn State. This position will broadly involve working on NIH-funded research related to the associations between psychological stress, emotion, and psychological disorders (e.g., depression) with physiological markers related to stress and health (e.g., inflammatory markers) and with cognitive aging outcomes (e.g., cognitive performance, mild cognitive impairment, dementia). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on an ongoing longitudinal measurement burst study and will have access to extensive already-collected data for secondary analysis.

Primary responsibilities will depend on the successful candidate's skills, interests, and goals, as well as fit with our research priorities.

Responsibilities will generally include:

  • Data analyses.
  • Preparation of manuscripts and conference presentations.
  • Contributing to grant preparation.
  • Data collection and/or management.
  • Participation in interdisciplinary research groups.

The Postdoctoral Scholar will have extensive opportunities to publish, access to exceptional resources to facilitate their independent research, and will be part of a dynamic group of interdisciplinary scholars.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. by the appointment start date in a biobehavioral health discipline, such as psychology, psychoneuroimmunology, physiology, epidemiology, or biostatistics. In addition, they must have demonstrated research excellence and productivity. Preference will be given to candidates with strong statistical skills (particularly multi-level modeling and within-person approaches, and use of SAS and/or R), experience/interest in working with older adults and/or cognitive aging outcomes and/or adult development, and ideally expertise and experience in ambulatory data capture (EMA/ESM, physiological monitoring, etc.) as well as in other relevant research domains (stress/health, mental health, PNI models, emotion, social processes, health behaviors, individual differences).

This is a term appointment, funded for one year from date of hire. Possibility of renewal is contingent upon satisfactory performance and availability; at least two years of funding are available. This position provides salary and benefits based on the standard for NIH postdoctoral appointments.
